The Refinery

CAD Design & Renders

Nick Cowley from The Refinery came to MWDesign with a basic sketch for a ring.

we were then able to create a 3D model for the ring in Solidworks to provide a prototype that allows the gemstone to sit into it. Once the CAD was finished, MWDesign 3D printed the ring using our Form Resin Printer. The printer uses Stereolithography (SLA) technology, using a light source—a laser or projector—to cure liquid resin into hardened plastic. This produced a high accuracy part with fine features and smooth surface finish, ready for casting.

We then passed the resin ring over to The Refinery, who used it to investment cast the gold ring base. He then inlaid the diamonds and central sapphire, to complete the finished ring.

MWDesign are able to 3D model the ring in Solidworks, using the sketch as a base to CAD the form to tight tolerances and dimensions, provided for the gemstones to sit into.
